What’s around?

Nearby (about 3-5 mins walk) is a small local supermarket, and a fresh food market which sells fish, meat, vegetables and bread. There are a couple of other small supermarkets in the village which will take you back in time as you watch them slicing the cold meats for you. You will also find an amazing bric a brac/ironmongers (think Fork Handles) where they have never yet not had anything we needed, even if it was not on display

There are bars and restaurants to cater for all tastes. If you want the simplicity of where the locals go for an inexpensive dish of the day or a five course sumptuous meal, you will find it here in Mijas Pueblo. There are even two takeaways (including pizza delivery) if you can’t tear yourself away from the balcony view, but don't feel like cooking.

The nearest beach is at Fuengirola which is about 10/15 mins drive away but is also easily and cheaply accessible by local public transport. The beautiful blue flag beach of La Cala is about 25 mins drive away and there is a summer bus service also from the village. The bus stop is in the centre of the village and is about a 10 minute walk from the apartment.

The direct buses from Mijas pueblo go to:

  • Fuengirola (change for Marbella)
  • Torremolinos (stopping on the way at Benalmadena Pueblo, Arroyo (train station) and Benalmadena costa)
  • Coin.
  • La Cala ( summer service only)
  • There is a great tourist centre in the village where you can get timetables

Museums -

  • El Carromato de Max (Max’s Wagon) is a very special museum, displaying curious miniatures such as a sentence written on the edge of a card, a portrait of Abraham Lincoln on a pinhead…
  • The Town House Museum,
  • Mijas Bullfighting Museum brings visitors closer to the quintessential art of bulls and matadors.

Mijas Donkey Taxis - Donkey taxis are a peculiar means of transport; they originated in the 1960s to carry the workers to and from the fields. You can have your photo taken with the donkeys or even get to ride them.
